The 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision allowed for states to regulate abortions in the second and third trimesters in order to protect the woman's health. For more information on Roe v. Wade go to: http://www.prochoice.org/policy/courts/roe_v_wade.html.
During the later second trimester, Texas state laws and regulations
require abortions be done in a surgical site or hospital. During the
last trimester, Texas state laws and regulations prohibit abortion
except when it is necessary to preserve the life or health of the woman.
Our sister clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico is able to provide
abortions later in a pregnancy. The clinic provides elective pregnancy
termination through 28 weeks LMP and further for fetal and maternal
indications. For women over the 28th menstrual week, BPD 7.0 and
greater, services are provided on a case-by-case basis. Because each
case is unique, we ask that women with fetal or maternal indications
call the office for a phone evaluation. They will help if they can.
