Medications

We offer a combination of medications to make you feel more comfortable. All patients who wish to receive medications will need a ride from the clinic after the procedure is performed.

Fentanyl (Sublimaze) is a synthetic narcotic that acts as a painkiller by binding to your pain receptors. You will still feel sensations such as touch and pressure, but your body will feel comfortable and minimize any discomfort.
Versed (Midazolam) is an anti-anxiety medication that will help you to feel more relaxed and sleepy. A side effect of this medication is that it has amnesic properties, which means you may not remember all of the procedure.
Lidocaine (a local anesthetic) numbs the nerves in the cervix and lower uterus.

One of our distinct advantages is a remarkable lack of pain. In fact, most of our patients have commented that they do not experience the procedure as being painful.

What also helps is the counselor who will accompany you throughout the procedure. She will assist you with relaxation techniques and be there for you. Soft music and soft lighting also help, as does the supportive atmosphere within the clinic.

The combinations of all these ingredients - anesthesia, relaxation techniques, and a supportive, soothing atmosphere - have proven to be very effective in the management of pain.
